Volunteers Needed
The Laurel Lakes Citizen Patrol is a volunteer organization sponsored by the Sarasota County Sheriff Department and has emerged as a most effective approach to residential safety awareness and involvement.   By it’s visibility in specially marked vehicles, the patrol serves as a strong deterrent against the unlawful actions of potential criminals.  Considerable credit for reduced crime rates is attributed to the nightly presence of the motorized Citizen Patrol on the streets of participating neighborhoods.

The effectiveness of The Laurel Lake Citizen Patrol is totally dependent on its volunteers.  Your willingness to serve with this program is a positive indication of your enthusiastic interest in the safety and security of your neighborhood.  Your time and energy will be a most worthwhile investment for the betterment of our community.  We welcome full and part time residents.  For more information contact Dennis Mikus (341-0585) or at dsm1944@verizon.net.  A special thank you to all residents that have or are currently participating with the Citizen Patrol Program.  Your efforts are very much appreciated.

Rothenbach Park
From: djbrown111@juno.com
Date: December 22, 2009 9:32:55 AM EST
To: njb50@verizon.net

As I mentioned on the phone, we went to a meeting of Friends of
Rothenbach Park and among other things came away with, what for us were, two important issues.

1.  People have been locked in the park which automatically locks and
unlocks, and we would not want any of our friends and neighbors to get
locked in.  The Park opens each day at 6 AM.  In the winter it closes at
6 PM and in the summer does not close until 9 PM.  It is important to read the signs at the park entrance, beyond the animal shelter building, to be sure you don't get LOCKED IN.

2.  Although we have a wonderful park resource so close to us there is a lot of work to be done and the county, with it's limited resources is not going to do it.  So on Sat, Jan. 16th a work morning from 9 to noon is
scheduled for volunteers to go and  help clear what they call, "Exotic
plants" we call them weeds, like "Air Potatoes", that want to take over & spread.   This is a great  opportunity for Laurel Lakes residents to get
involved in a project very close to home, that will help the park be a
better place, get  to visit and meet new friends and neighbors, and also share in a lunch that will be provided at noon, for those who help. Come join in the fun for part or all of that Sat. morning.  Be sure to wear gloves and bring some kind of clippers, if you have them.

If you have questions or concerns call Joan or Dick Brown at 342-0506.
